Tynecastle

In late 2023, The University of Edinburgh entered an agreement with S1 Developments to become the owners of the former Tynecastle High School site, which is being developed into student accommodation.

The project will deliver 472 student beds for University of Edinburgh students, along with exceptional amenity space, centred around a landscaped courtyard. The project has sustainability at its core and will utilise heat pumps for the provision of hot water and electric heating throughout.

The scheme is an exemplar development, both in terms of amenity provision for its residents and in terms of the overall sustainability of the building. The design retains the historic façade of the school while delivering new build wings to the north and west creating a collegiate style courtyard.

Demolition is underway and completion is programmed in September 2026.
